How do I deal with an employee that shares their personal financial problems with me

I express my appreciation to you. A team member sharing financial problems with you indicates that the employee trusts in you. It may not mean that the staff expects you to solve it for them.

Here is what you can do

Freddie, how to get job satisfaction?

Dear Reader,

Satisfaction doesn’t come from a job. Intriguing? Satisfaction is a natural outcome of service.

How did you feel when you have helped someone beyond their wildest dreams? You are sure to get satisfaction with your job once you decide to find moments of service. ‘Service’ by Ron Kaufman’s definition is ‘taking action to create value for someone else’.

Freddie, How to bring cognitive automation solution as culture?

I like the question of linking an initiative to the organization culture.

If an important initiative is not yet part of the culture, here are 2 questions for your self-diagnosis.

  1. How many in your organization are cognitive of the need for the cognitive automation solution?
  2. Were previous executions well-planned, right teams involved, and communicated, regardless of the solution being successful?

How a rural women leader can handle a crisis using the Father Manager approach?

Dear Reader,

I learned from your profile that you are committed to the noble initiative of rural revival and the author of a best-seller on Microfinance.

I have come across rural woman leaders being loved and trusted for creating opportunities and reshaping lives. They infuse confidence and pride in their teams by imparting skills for sustenance. They command a high level of allegiance as the team is grateful for their life transformation. I am new to this job. I have 30 people reporting to me from a different geo. I have not had enough time to mingle with them or even meet them. Now with working from home, the team is suspected to be not productive. I think they are taking my lack of knowledge of the systems here for granted and slowing down work and relaxing more. I am a leader who trusts people and I don’t micro manage. How do I bring productivity up and seriousness at work in this situation where everyone works from home?

Dearest Reader,

I understand your predicament. Trust, bonding and reverence take time to develop. They cannot be accelerated.

Here is a working plan for you. When this sequence is followed, your team could come to a listening mode and then it is easier to have them work effectively.

Hi Freddie, This is a question my friend has told me to ask you. Do the principles in ‘Father Of Your Team’ apply to domestic help employees such as security guards and chauffeurs too?

Dearest reader,

I am overjoyed to see this offbeat and inquisitive question. Let your friend know that I appreciated it.

Security guards, maintenance staff, and chauffeurs have a workplace too. They have their customers, and they work with their teams. Leadership is not anointed. Yet, it is easily noticed when consistently displayed. A security guard who voluntarily takes quick strides to the parking, the moment he spots an employee or a chauffeur struggling to find a space is noticed for his leadership.

Freddie, I am working at entry level in a Multinational company. I am seeing different types of leaders. What is leadership?

Dear Reader,
Leadership is the ‘Displayed ability to influence and add value to others, without a need for authority’. ‘Others’ would include not just the leader’s team, the clients and every other stakeholder. Ability to influence is gained when the leader can build trust through managing relationships and, larger goals.
